The best hotel in the Midwest

It’s not everyday people choose to stay in a hotel that’s also in their city. I mean why would you? Here’s why … how about to refresh, recharge and take a few hours to play tourist in your town—see the things other people come to see! Learn. And let someone else make the bed in the morning.

A few months ago I was lucky enough to be part of a press trip that not only got to tour the great city of Indianapolis, but also got to stay at the JW Marriott—the best hotel in the Midwest. Really. Don’t just take my word for it … check out what Conde Nast has to say:

  • #1 hotel in the Midwest
  • #5 hotel in the U.S.
  • #25 best hotel in the world

My room, er, umm, suite, was on the 22nd floor and had so many windows I could literally see the city as an owl would—you know, the big bird of prey that can swivel his head something close to 275 degrees. Yay. Like that. Heck, if it wasn’t for the fact that I had tickets to the Indians baseball game, I could have sat right there and watched every hit and every strike from my bird’s-eye view.

So OK, OK, my view was lovely … and yes, my linens were plush, the shower was more than ample, the room spotless … the hallways quiet … the entire hotel beyond clean and well-appropriated with plenty of seating, tons of food options—my personal favorite is Osteria Pronto, I truly cannot say enough good things about the menu, wine selection and the presentation— etc. etc. etc. You get the point … it’s luxury in the heart of the Midwest.

What makes the JW Marriott rise above the rest (literally … just look at the Indianapolis skyline) is the staff—let’s face it, there is more than one luxury hotel in the Midwest and certainly more than one throughout this great big world of ours … but is there one with a more engaging, more knowledgeable and genuinely helpful staff than the JW Indy? That’s something you’ll have to answer for yourself … so the next time you’re visiting the Circle City or just want to pretend to be a tourist in your own town, stay at the JW … you’ll love it! 10 S West Street, Indianapolis
